This site is created to provide graduates (and current students) with an online resource for news, events and general keeping in touch.
For those of you who don't know who we are:
The MA Sport Management Course is offered at the North Campus of London Metropolitan University. The course has been running since 2002 when it was created from the MA Leisure and Tourism.
Our current offer can be seen at (sorry for the sell but it wont happen much) http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/pgprospectus/courses/sport-management.cfm
At the time of writing the course has 17 students from Britain, France, the United States and we have over 50 graduates from many European countries, Canada, the U.S., Brasil, India and even Australia.
If you are interested in doing the course send me an email or click on the link above. If you are an international student (outside EU) and you are interested in funding then follow this link;
http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/international/howtoapply/scholarships/scholars.cfm
We offer scholarships for athletes looking to combine their studies with representing our University in one of the following sports; Basketball, Hockey, Athletics.
Right, enough of the selling!
For those of you that do:
I hope your chosen careers are progressing well. For those into the sport industry already I am hoping you find the work challenging and awarding. Your experiences, no matter who small they may appear to you, are really interesting to many students on the course at this time, and of course all the Undergraduate and Higher National Diploma students at LondonMet also. Please use this site to post comments about the news and event releases that I post here. To create your own postings (of which would be most welcome) all you need to do is send an email to p.kitchin@londonmet.ac.uk and I will add your email to the access list.
Who am I?
For those of you I have not met (i.e. you did the course before I arrived or you are thinking of doing the course) my name is Paul Kitchin and I am the current course leader. I am from
I am aiming to link together everyone that has done the course and allow them to communicate through this site. It will hopefully be more effective than trying to create newsletters and send them out periodically.
For those of you who keep in email contact regularly please continue to do so but this site may allow you to spread your news, questions, opinions to all.

Thanks Paul, Thats a great idea!
it was actually Nic's idea - Rob and myslef were toying with the idea for a blog site to accompany strategic management in sport. This way I can keep news going out without having to publish full newsletters!
i think whjat might make this more interesting is if we can get more opinion on the blog - ie start some threads whihc are more controversial (well not libellous) to stimulate some debate? For instance , does sport management need more or less of a managerialist approach? How unique is the sports product once one has assumed that there is always a trade off between either a consummption costs associated with producing it (ie people run sport because they take some pleasure out of it , and this tempers a purely rational economic approach)and/or the public/merit good argument of sport provision? And by the way how should we fund the Olympics if we think there is a public good element as well as a consumption element- how do you translate that into a hard financial decision?
