Some clearer details on what is going on - here
I am not sure whether the clubs will win the case - an independent commission sat and found nothing wrong with the transfers, the penalties may not be correct based off past experience (precedence) but football is hardly an open, transparent business.
Will be interesting to see how it goes but I wouldn't advise Sheffield United to hold their collective breaths.

The poin t about sport is its managing bodies are in effect regulatory without any power ohter than that of collective agreement to decisons. Almost every reform in sport has come about through recourse or threat of recourse to civil law. The issue of Sheff u v WHU is really one of how to regulate the game - it is not all clear how precedence fits here as this is not common law. As such i expect the compromise outcome is resignations all round the premier league and avoidance of recourse to the courts. In effect the premiwr league as agroup of self managed clubs agreeing to a management body seem obliged to accept the decisions of that body. If they were willing to defer to the Football league or FA then there might be a stronger case for precedence and points deductions
absolutey but given the premier league is dropping the FA from its name next year it would be uncharacteristic (based off previous experience) of them to look to the FA. the preceedence i refer to was not legal but general - i think it was tottenham in 94 but will look into it as it may provide mroe insight into this
cheers

It was Sugar who blamed the previous Spurs management for irregulartities and had a 10 pt deduction overtyurned- basically the PL has to take the stance that it is elf regulkating - and the WHU case may do this - or face up to the fact that other bodies like UEFA may take an interest - cf the Platini story - and platini was elected by governing bodies who fear eroison of their privileges
I can't see in the near term a breakdown of the current commercial model unless there is a real economic crisis in the media and sponsorong industries - and that itself could only be a product of a wider malaise in the global economy - the genie is ouit of the bottle
