An interesting article on the lack of afro-carribean players in the England cricket team, it presents an interesting case of how equitable representation is not a process where progress can be taken for granted.
I thought this was a sensible piece of writing and one whihc might demand further research ie why is football so dominant? one reason is that there are lots of football clubs for young people whihc play September to July. the other is that cricket clubs - with the possible exception of tennis clubs- are the most exclusive places - this is why there are so many all indian or all Pakistani clubs being formed - or at least thatis my perception - whihc may be also to do with an inbred racism at grass roots in cricket. plus schools just don;t play much cricket and qwik cricket isn't goig to make a difference if there are few facilities outside available. It is odd the ECB have no earmarket funding for diversity ie cricket clubs should not get grantswithjout being able to demonstrate an equal opporunties programme and outcomes? or is that too miuch social engineering?
